Montreal drivers should prepare for multiple road closures this weekend, from May 30 to June 1, 2026, as construction and special events affect major routes. The closures will impact highways and local streets across the city, potentially causing delays for commuters and visitors.
Highway Closures
Key highways including Autoroute 20, Autoroute 40, and the Decarie Expressway will have lane reductions and full closures at various times. Drivers are advised to use alternate routes such as Boulevard de l'Acadie or Rue Sherbrooke to avoid congestion.
Autoroute 20 Eastbound
Closed from exit 64 to exit 68 from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for bridge repairs. Detour via Rue Notre-Dame.
Autoroute 40 Westbound
Two lanes closed between Boulevard Saint-Laurent and Avenue du Parc from 8 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday for resurfacing.
Local Street Closures
Several downtown streets will be closed for the Tour de l'Ile cycling event on Sunday. Cyclists will take over routes including Rue Sainte-Catherine and Avenue du Mont-Royal. Motorists should expect delays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Additional closures on Rue Sherbrooke and Boulevard Rene-Levesque for utility work will continue through the weekend.
Public Transit Alternatives
The STM recommends using Metro lines 1 and 2 as alternative transportation. Extra bus service will be available on detour routes. Visit the STM website for updated schedules.
Stay tuned for further updates as conditions change. Plan ahead and allow extra travel time.
