Montreal Transit Admits Error in Cutting Early Bus Route After REM Launch
Montreal Transit Admits Error in Cutting Early Bus Route

The Societe de transport de Montreal (STM) has admitted to an error in its recent network overhaul that eliminated the early-morning 211 bus route, a service that had been relied upon by Pointe-Claire resident Jaine Orr for 25 years. The changes took effect on May 18, 2026, coinciding with the launch of the new REM line to the West Island.

Orr expressed disappointment and frustration over the sudden disappearance of the bus that she and many others depended on for daily commutes. The STM's acknowledgment of the mistake comes after public backlash and concerns raised by affected commuters.

The transit authority is now reviewing options to restore or modify the service to better meet the needs of early-morning travelers. The incident highlights the challenges of integrating new transit infrastructure with existing bus networks while maintaining reliable service for all passengers.
