Georgia Viaduct Closed Saturday for Crane Removal

The Georgia Viaduct in Vancouver will be closed on Saturday, May 30, 2026, to facilitate the removal of a crane at a nearby construction site, according to the City of Vancouver.

Closure Details

The viaduct will be shut down to both vehicles and pedestrians from the intersection of West Georgia and Beatty Streets to Prior Street. The closure will begin at 6 a.m. on Saturday and is expected to last until at least 8 p.m. that evening.

The crane removal is taking place at a development located at 150 West Georgia Street, on the corner of Beatty Street. City officials anticipate that the work will be completed by Saturday evening. However, if delays occur, the closure may be extended until 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 31.

Impact on Traffic and Commuters

This closure will primarily affect drivers traveling out of downtown Vancouver toward East Vancouver. Pedestrians and cyclists will also be prohibited from using the viaduct during the shutdown. The Dunsmuir Viaduct, which serves vehicles heading into downtown, will remain open and operational throughout the weekend.

Motorists are advised to plan alternative routes and allow extra travel time. The city encourages commuters to use public transit or other routes to avoid delays.
