Driver Charged After Speeding at 175 km/h in Chatham-Kent

Chatham-Kent Police Service has charged a pickup truck driver after the vehicle was clocked travelling at 175 kilometres per hour, well over the posted speed limit.

The incident occurred on a roadway in the municipality, where officers observed the truck speeding. The driver, whose identity has not been released, was stopped and charged with stunt driving under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act.

Under Ontario's stunt driving legislation, a vehicle can be impounded for 14 days and the driver's licence suspended for 30 days upon a charge. Conviction can lead to fines, further licence suspension, and possible jail time.
