All GO Transit train lines are experiencing significant delays on Tuesday evening following a switch malfunction earlier in the day, according to Metrolinx officials. The issue, which occurred near Union Station, has caused widespread disruptions across the network, affecting thousands of commuters during the evening rush hour.
Switch Malfunction Causes Chaos
The problem began around 4:30 PM when a critical track switch failed, forcing trains to be rerouted or held at stations. Metrolinx crews worked to repair the switch, but delays are expected to persist into the night. Commuters are advised to expect delays of up to 45 minutes on all lines, including Lakeshore West, Lakeshore East, Milton, Kitchener, Barrie, Stouffville, and Richmond Hill.
Impact on Commuters
Passengers reported crowded platforms and long wait times at Union Station and other major hubs. Many took to social media to express frustration. "I've been waiting for over an hour just to get on a train," said one commuter. Metrolinx has apologized for the inconvenience and is urging passengers to consider alternative transportation options, such as the TTC or GO buses.
