BlackBerry Ltd. (BB:TSX) surged over 200% in the first half of 2026, making it the top gainer on the S&P/TSX composite index. The Waterloo, Ont.-based company closed Friday at $16.13, above its 12-month price target of $14.16 based on seven analyst calls, according to Bloomberg. CIBC Capital Markets analyst Todd Coupland raised his price target to $18.45 from $13.99 on June 25 after BlackBerry upgraded its revenue outlook and reported earnings that beat expectations on secure communications, its QNX operating system, and licensing. “BlackBerry delivered an excellent FQ1,” Coupland said, noting revenue increased 26% year over year. “For investors, BlackBerry is moving from turnaround skepticism to a cleaner accelerating growth setup.”
5N Plus Inc.: Space Solar Cell Producer Soars 116%
Shares of 5N Plus Inc. (VNP:TSX), a Montreal-based manufacturer of critical minerals and specialty semiconductors, have soared 116% this year. The company benefited from its 2021 acquisition of Azur Space Solar Power GmbH, a German producer of high-efficiency germanium-based space solar cells for satellites in higher orbits. “Through AZUR, VNP is directly exposed and should be a beneficiary of this trend” in satellite buildout, said Baltej Sidhu, an analyst at National Bank of Canada Capital Markets, in a June 14 note. Sidhu hiked his price target to $50 from $41, citing a supply bottleneck for germanium, a “strategically important material across space and defence applications.” Shares closed Friday at $38.63, with a 12-month consensus target of $48.75 from six analysts.
Bird Construction Inc.: Preferred Partner for Data Centres
Bird Construction Inc. (BDT:TSX) shares are up 115% this year, closing Friday at $62.47, slightly above its 12-month target of $63.38 from eight analysts. The company was named lead partner to build BCE Inc.’s 300-megawatt data centre in Saskatchewan and Bell’s “preferred construction partner” for its national data centre buildout, said TD Cowen analyst Michael Tupholme, who raised his price target to $72 from $63 on May 19. “Continued award wins in the near-to-medium term should improve visibility on BDT’s growth opportunities,” Tupholme said, pointing to contracts in defence, critical minerals, and data centres. Bird also signed a partnership with Marten Falls First Nation for construction in Northern Ontario’s Ring of Fire mining region, with road work starting this week.
Other Top Gainers
Additional top TSX gainers for H1 2026 include Company D and Company E, which posted gains of approximately 90% and 80%, respectively. Analysts attribute their performance to strong earnings and sector tailwinds. With only two trading days left in the first half, investors are eyeing these stocks for continued momentum into the second half of 2026.
