Mighty Millions Lottery Grand Prize Home in Keswick Showcases Open Design and River Valley Views
The Mighty Millions lottery has unveiled its grand prize home in Keswick, a stunning property designed to offer both spacious living and breathtaking views of the river valley. This show home, valued at $2.4 million, serves as a key fundraiser for the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation, with proceeds supporting pediatric care and research.
Architectural Design and Layout
Birkholz Homes, the builder behind this spring's Mighty Millions lottery home, has crafted a residence that blends Prairie Modern exterior aesthetics with a transitional interior. Penny Birkholz of Birkholz Homes describes the design as "a classic with very livable spaces." The home spans over 5,200 square feet of developed area, including 1,637 square feet on the main floor and 1,477 square feet on the upper level.
Featuring four bedrooms and five bathrooms, the layout emphasizes an open concept while incorporating zones for privacy. Notable elements include a separated den near the entry, a privacy passage with a unique drop zone, and a butler's pantry adjacent to the kitchen. The design ensures front-to-rear views that highlight the ravine and river valley backdrop, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Interior Features and Finishes
Upstairs, the primary bedroom and ensuite are complemented by an open bonus space ideal for television viewing. Two additional bedrooms, one adorned with a Graham and Brown wildflower mural, share a large Jack and Jill bathroom. The primary ensuite boasts an extra-long vanity with a sitting area, adding to the home's luxurious feel.
The finished lower level includes a custom wet bar framed by an arch, a musical instrument zone, a gym, and a fourth bedroom with its own ensuite. Colour schemes in beige, brown, and creamy tones, such as Benjamin Moore's Edgecomb Gray, lend a hint of moodiness to the interior, enhancing its contemporary yet cozy appeal.
Supporting a Worthy Cause
Megan Wenger, manager of marketing and communications for the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation, praised the home, noting, "It is so livable and open. The lot is so incredible—you can look out and see that the river valley provides such an impressive view." Since its launch in 2015, the Mighty Millions lottery has raised over $32 million for the foundation, funding specialized equipment and cutting-edge pediatric research.
Karen Faulkner, president and CEO of the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation, highlighted the hospital's impact, stating, "The Stollery is the most specialized children's hospital in Western Canada, providing care to more than 316,000 patient visits each year." This spring's lottery aims to raise $2 million, with funds also supporting the planned new standalone Stollery on the University of Alberta's south campus.
The Mighty Millions lottery holds two home lotteries annually, with this Keswick property serving as the spring grand prize. Visitors can now tour the home, experiencing firsthand its blend of open design, privacy zones, and scenic views, all while contributing to a vital cause in children's healthcare.
