The winning ticket for Friday's Lotto Max jackpot worth $70 million was sold in Brampton, as announced by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG). The payout is a timely gift for Mother's Day, according to the OLG.
Additional Prizes
A Maxmillions ticket purchased in Milton will be shared three ways, with each winner receiving $333,333.40. Two other winning Maxmillions tickets were sold in Quebec and Western Canada. The OLG also reported that two Maxplus tickets worth $100,000 each were sold in the United Counties of Prescott and Russell in Eastern Ontario. Two more $100,000 Maxplus tickets were bought in Simcoe County and Kitchener.
Another winning Maxplus ticket purchased in Stoney Creek, worth $100,000, will be split evenly among two other winners from the Parry Sound and Nipissing area and Western Canada. Additionally, three Encore tickets worth $100,000 each were sold in Toronto, the Kawartha Lakes region, and Lucan in Southwestern Ontario.
Winners Encouraged to Check Numbers
In a statement on Saturday, a spokesperson for the OLG congratulated all winners of these life-changing prizes and urged them to check their numbers using the OLG app or by visiting a lottery retailer. Last week, the OLG noted that a $5 million Lotto 6/49 Classic Jackpot was won by someone who purchased a ticket in Stoney Creek.
Privacy Changes
Earlier this month, the OLG announced it will no longer disclose the last names of jackpot winners, citing privacy concerns. Previously, winners' full names appeared on cheques and in news releases. Now, only their first name and the first initial of their last name will be made public. Since 2009, Lotto Max players in Ontario have won over $9.9 billion, including 122 jackpot wins and 1,003 Maxmillions prizes.
