Guelph Businesses Feel the Squeeze from Downtown Construction
A major construction project in downtown Guelph is causing significant headaches for drivers and local businesses alike. According to CTV's Heather Senoran, the ongoing work has led to reduced foot traffic and customer complaints, with many shop owners reporting a noticeable decline in sales.
The construction, which is part of a larger infrastructure upgrade, has resulted in road closures and detours that make it difficult for customers to access stores. Business owners are calling for better communication and support from the city to mitigate the economic impact.
One local merchant stated, 'It's been a nightmare. Customers can't get here, and when they do, they're frustrated. We're losing money every day.' The project is expected to continue for several more months, leaving businesses concerned about their survival.
City officials have acknowledged the challenges but emphasize the long-term benefits of the upgrades. However, for now, the immediate pain is being felt by the small businesses that form the backbone of downtown Guelph.
