Woman charged after slapping security guard during theft
A 33-year-old woman faces charges after allegedly slapping a security guard during a theft at a store in Sault Ste. Marie. The incident occurred on May 26, according to a news release from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.
Police responded to a report of a theft in progress at a retail store. Upon arrival, officers learned that a woman had attempted to leave the store without paying for merchandise. When a security guard approached her, she allegedly slapped him in the face.
The guard was not injured. The woman was arrested at the scene and charged with theft under $5,000 and assault. She was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on July 13.
Police are not releasing the name of the store or the woman's identity to protect the integrity of the investigation. The incident is a reminder of the risks faced by retail workers and security personnel.
