Calgary café displaced by pipe construction opens new location

Angel's Cafe, a Calgary establishment displaced by water pipe construction, has found a new home outside the city. Owner Cathy Jacobs has reopened the café in Crossfield, Alta., approximately 60 kilometers north of Calgary.

Displacement and Relocation

The café was forced to close its original location due to a water pipe construction project that disrupted operations. Jacobs, who has run the café for years, decided to move rather than wait out the construction delays. The new location in Crossfield opened on June 18, 2026, as confirmed by The Canadian Press.

Community Response

Jacobs expressed gratitude for the support from regular customers, many of whom have traveled to the new site. “We’ve had people drive up from Calgary just to see us,” she said. The move has allowed the café to continue serving its menu, which includes coffee, baked goods, and light meals.

Impact on Local Business

The construction, part of a city-wide water infrastructure upgrade, has affected multiple businesses along the route. Angel's Cafe is among the first to relocate permanently. Jacobs noted that the new location offers more space and parking, which could attract new customers from Crossfield and surrounding areas.
