Calgary Builders Dominate 2026 CHBA National Housing Excellence Awards
Calgary Builders Win Top CHBA Housing Excellence Awards

Alberta has once again proven its dominance in Canada's residential housing sector at the 2026 Canadian Home Builders' Association (CHBA) National Awards for Housing Excellence. Builders, developers, and renovators from the province walked away with some of the most prestigious accolades during the ceremony held earlier this month in Quebec City.

Calgary's Stellar Performance

Two of the three top Excellence awards were secured by Calgary-based companies. Homes by Avi took home the Design Excellence Award, while Ultimate Homes and Renovations earned the Renovation Excellence Award. Additionally, Calgary's University District was named Canada's Best Growing Community. Out of 49 categories, 14 winners hailed from Calgary, showcasing the city's strong presence in the housing industry.

Design Excellence: Homes by Avi

Homes by Avi, which also builds in Edmonton, was recognized for having the best cumulative results in the new homes and new home spaces categories. This marks the fifth consecutive year that a Calgary builder has won this prestigious award. One of their winning entries, "The Sasha," earned Best Attached Low-Rise Home (1,500 – 1,800 square feet).

Renovation Excellence: Ultimate Homes and Renovations

Ultimate Homes and Renovations of Calgary received the Renovation Excellence Award, a title they previously won in 2024. Their project "Millrise Modernized" won Best Kitchen Renovation (under $70,000). Last year, the award went to Edmonton's Vicky's Homes.

Marketing Excellence and Best Growing Community

The Marketing Excellence Award was presented to Brenthaven Homes of Burlington, Ontario, and its marketing firm Pureblink of Toronto. Calgary's University District, developed by the University of Calgary Properties Group, was named Canada's Best Growing Community. All finalists for this category were from Alberta, including Edmonton's Chappelle Gardens and Calgary area's Harmony, Rangeview, and Wildflower.

Alberta's National Appeal

Natasha Rombough, senior director of operations and communications at CHBA, noted that Alberta has had a strong showing at national awards in recent years. "Given that judges come from across the country, it shows that the projects coming out of the province have national appeal, with floor plans and designs that would appeal to a wide variety of people and various household formations," she said. "Given that Alberta is actively trying to welcome new residents, that's a great thing for builders and renovators in the province to be able to achieve."

Other Alberta winners included entries from Edmonton and Lethbridge, further underscoring the province's housing excellence. The awards highlight the innovative and high-quality work being done in Alberta's residential construction sector.
