Trump Mobile Begins Shipping $499 Gold T1 Phone After Delays
Trump Mobile Starts Shipping Gold T1 Phone After Delays

After months of delays, Trump Mobile has announced that its Trump-branded gold phone, the T1, will begin shipping this week to preorder customers. The company shared the news in a social media post on Wednesday, accompanied by a video showcasing the gold-colored smartphone.

Device Features and Pricing

The T1 phone, priced at $499, features an American flag printed on its back and is marketed for "real American value." According to the promotional video, the device includes a 3.5 mm headphone jack, which the company highlights as a feature "unlike many modern flagship devices."

Specifications and Comparisons

Early reviews, based on limited information, have compared the T1's specifications to the T-Mobile REVVL 7 Pro 5G, a device manufactured in China that retails for around $128 at Amazon and Walmart. Like the T1, the REVVL 7 Pro also includes a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

Production and Delays

Trump Mobile initially launched in June but postponed the T1's release to October and then to later this week due to delays in development and testing, according to CEO Pat O'Brien in a statement to Reuters. The Android devices were originally advertised as designed and manufactured in the U.S., but that description was later changed to "eventually" made in the U.S.

O'Brien told Reuters that the phones are currently "assembled in the U.S." and that the company hopes to release a product with most components made domestically in the future.

Expert Analysis

Tinglong Dai, a global supply chain expert at Johns Hopkins Carey Business School, previously explained to HuffPost that manufacturing such a phone entirely in the U.S. is currently impossible, as the country lacks the infrastructure to produce key components like display panels, memory chips, and camera modules, which are almost entirely made in Asia. He noted that changing this would require "a lot of heavy lifting."

An expert consumer analyst also estimated to HuffPost that Trump Mobile users will not exceed 100,000 accounts, raising questions about whether achieving domestic manufacturing goals would be economically viable.
