Arrests and Seizure in Pictou County
Two individuals have been arrested following a traffic stop in Pictou County, Nova Scotia, where RCMP officers seized multiple firearms and a stolen vehicle. The incident occurred on June 29, 2026, when police stopped a vehicle on Highway 104 near New Glasgow.
During the stop, officers discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen. A subsequent search led to the seizure of several firearms, including rifles and handguns, along with ammunition. The RCMP did not specify the exact number of firearms recovered but confirmed they were unsecured and accessible.
Charges and Court Appearance
The two suspects, whose names have not been released pending court appearances, face multiple charges including possession of stolen property over $5,000, unauthorized possession of firearms, and careless storage of firearms. They were taken into custody and are scheduled to appear in provincial court in Pictou on July 2, 2026.
According to RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Chris Marshall, “This seizure demonstrates the importance of proactive policing in removing illegal firearms from our communities. We are committed to holding those who pose a threat to public safety accountable.”
Ongoing Investigation
The investigation is ongoing, and police have not ruled out additional charges. The RCMP also noted that the stolen vehicle was recovered and will be returned to its owner. No injuries were reported during the arrest.
