York Regional Police are asking for the public's help to identify a suspect who allegedly stole a gold chain from a jewelry store in Newmarket on June 1, 2026, and fled the scene.
Incident Details
Police responded to a report of a theft at a jewelry store in the area of Davis Drive and Yonge Street at approximately 2:30 p.m. on June 1. According to investigators, the suspect entered the store, requested to view a gold chain, and then fled without paying. The suspect is believed to have left the area on foot. No injuries were reported.
Suspect Description
The suspect is described as a male with a slim build, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, dark pants, and a face mask at the time of the incident. Police have released a photo of the suspect in hopes of identifying him.
“We are asking anyone who recognizes this individual or has information about the theft to come forward,” said Constable Laura Nicolle of the York Regional Police.
Investigation Ongoing
Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and speaking with witnesses. The stolen gold chain is valued at an undisclosed amount. Police are urging anyone with information to contact the York Regional Police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
