Windsor Fire Reminds Residents of Victoria Day Fireworks Rules
Windsor Fire: Victoria Day Fireworks Rules Reminder

As Victoria Day approaches, Windsor Fire & Rescue Services is reminding residents about the rules and regulations surrounding fireworks use. In a statement released Thursday, the fire department emphasized the importance of following safety guidelines to prevent accidents and fires.

Permitted Times for Fireworks

According to the city's fireworks bylaw, residents may only set off fireworks on Victoria Day itself, which falls on Monday, May 18, 2026. Fireworks are permitted between dusk and 11 p.m. on that day. Any other day requires a special permit from the fire department.

Prohibited Areas

Fireworks are strictly prohibited in all city parks, including waterfront areas, as well as on school grounds and other public property. They may only be used on private property with the owner's permission, and must be at least 15 meters away from any building, vehicle, or flammable material.

Safety Tips

The fire department urges residents to follow these safety tips:

  • Only purchase fireworks from licensed retailers.
  • Read and follow all instructions on the packaging.
  • Keep a bucket of water or a hose nearby.
  • Never light fireworks indoors or near dry grass.
  • Dispose of used fireworks by soaking them in water before discarding.

Fire Chief John Smith stated, "We want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable Victoria Day. By following these simple rules, we can prevent injuries and property damage."

In case of a fireworks-related emergency, residents should call 911 immediately. For more information on fireworks regulations, visit the Windsor Fire & Rescue Services website.
