Barbados Man Arrested After Car Theft, Chase in Bowmanville

A 27-year-old man from Barbados has been charged following a car theft and a dangerous police chase in Bowmanville on Sunday afternoon.

Incident Details

Durham Regional Police responded to an unknown trouble call near Concession Street East and Soper Creek Drive around 12:15 p.m. According to police, the man stole a Volkswagen sedan after an altercation with the owner.

Police allege that the suspect drove the vehicle in a dangerous manner, nearly causing multiple accidents, before abandoning the car and fleeing on foot near Holt Road and Highway 401.

Foot Chase Across Highway

The suspect then ran across live lanes of Highway 401 into a farmer's field. Officers located and took him into custody near Rundle Road. Police confirmed the man was not physically injured during the incident.

Charges Laid

Kashif Niles, originally from Barbados, faces charges of theft of a motor vehicle and dangerous operation. He was held for a bail hearing.
