WindsorTRUE Fest, the region's premier true crime festival, is moving from its traditional winter slot to the summer months in 2026. The festival will now take place in Amherstburg from July 16 to 18, 2026, according to organizers. This shift aims to attract larger crowds and take advantage of warmer weather for outdoor events.
New Dates and Location Details
The festival, previously held in January or February, will be hosted at multiple venues across Amherstburg, including the Amherstburg Freedom Museum and the Libro Centre. Organizers expect the summer timing to boost attendance by up to 40%, based on early ticket sales. "Moving to summer allows us to offer more interactive experiences, such as outdoor walking tours and evening film screenings under the stars," said festival director Sarah Mitchell.
Expanded Programming and Community Impact
The 2026 edition will feature over 30 speakers, including forensic experts, authors, and survivors of crime. New additions include a live podcast recording stage and a true crime trivia night. The festival is expected to generate an estimated $1.2 million in economic impact for the region, according to a study by the Amherstburg Chamber of Commerce. WindsorTRUE Fest launched in 2019 and quickly became a staple for true crime enthusiasts. Organizers have already secured headliners for 2026, including retired FBI profiler Mary Ellen O'Toole and Canadian crime writer Catherine Fogarty. Tickets go on sale September 1, 2025, with early bird pricing at $75 for a weekend pass.
