Payhawk Surpasses $100M ARR, Driven by AI-Native Rebuild

Payhawk, the AI-native spend management platform, has surpassed $100M in annual recurring revenue (ARR), achieving Centaur status. This milestone places it among approximately 250 private software companies worldwide, a club that Bessemer Venture Partners estimates is about seven times rarer than the $1 billion unicorn club. The company reported 159% year-over-year growth in net new business, 95% YoY growth in payments volumes, and a 75% jump in ARR per employee, following a comprehensive rebuild of its products and operations around autonomous AI agents.

AI-Native Overhaul Drives Growth

Over the past 24 months, Payhawk has transformed both its technology and business processes to leverage AI. ARR per full-time employee (FTE) rose 75% year-over-year to approximately $238,000, as AI now handles real work across the company. Specifically, 76% of support requests are fully resolved by AI, the sales team generates 159% more net-new business with a 10% smaller headcount, and product and engineering teams ship 57% more features with lower regression rates.

“When we started Payhawk in 2018, we set out to fix how companies spend money: a problem we thought was worth $1B, and now believe is a $1T+ opportunity,” said Hristo Borisov, co-founder and CEO of Payhawk. “In Q4 this year, we expect that one in every 500 commercial card payments in Europe will be made with a Payhawk card. And we’ve gone far beyond company cards, into paying suppliers, accounts payable, booking travel and simplifying procure-to-pay. Crossing $100M ARR is proof that a category-defining, AI-native finance platform can be built in Europe, and scaled to the world from here.”

Operational Efficiency and Capital Discipline

Payhawk’s growth has been capital-efficient. The company has turned roughly $120 million of net cash burned since founding into $100 million of ARR, a lifetime burn multiple of about 1.2x, while deploying only about half the capital it has raised. “What I’m proudest of is how efficiently we got here,” added Borisov. “AI now does real work across the company, and it’s the engine behind our growth.”

Key operational metrics include: one in every 500 commercial card payments in Europe expected to be made with a Payhawk card by Q4; ARR per FTE reaching $238,000, a 75% improvement YoY; total payments volume growing 95% YoY; and new business growing 159% YoY with a 10% smaller sales team.

Customer Adoption and New AI-Native Products

Total payments volume is growing 95% YoY, driven by new AI-native product lines such as the Travel Agent and Financial Controller Agent, which autonomously book travel and gather invoices from vendor websites on employees’ behalf. Payhawk now serves some of the fastest-growing European businesses, including Flatpay, Aikido, Apollo AI, Vox AI, and Nscale.
