Quebecor Q1 profit rises as average revenue per user climbs

Quebecor Inc. reported a rise in its first-quarter profit compared with the same period last year, driven by an increase in average revenue per user. The Montreal-based telecommunications and media company said its net income attributable to shareholders was $187.4 million, or 82 cents per diluted share, for the quarter ended March 31. That compares with $172.5 million, or 76 cents per diluted share, in the first quarter of 2025.

Revenue growth

Revenue for the quarter totalled $1.38 billion, up from $1.32 billion a year earlier. The company attributed the growth to higher revenue in its telecommunications segment, which includes wireless, internet, and television services. Average revenue per user (ARPU) for wireless postpaid subscribers increased to $58.92 from $57.84 in the same period last year.

Telecommunications performance

Quebecor's telecommunications division, which operates under the Videotron brand, added 23,000 new wireless subscribers during the quarter. The company also reported growth in its internet and television subscriber bases. The increase in ARPU reflects the company's focus on value-added services and customer retention strategies.

Media segment

The media division, which includes TVA Group and other properties, saw revenue decline slightly due to lower advertising revenue. However, the company said it is making progress in its digital transformation efforts, with increased viewership on its digital platforms.

Outlook

Quebecor said it remains confident in its ability to generate growth in the coming quarters, driven by its investments in network infrastructure and content. The company also announced a quarterly dividend of 34.5 cents per share, up from 32.5 cents per share in the previous quarter.
