Grade 12 students at Stayner Collegiate Institute in Stayner, Ontario, are putting their green thumbs to work this week as they prepare for a plant sale scheduled for Saturday, May 9. The event is part of the school's Green Thumb Studies program, which provides students with hands-on experience in horticulture and environmental stewardship.
Student-Led Initiative
Cali Collicutt, one of the participating Grade 12 students, expressed excitement about the sale. 'We've been working hard to grow a variety of plants, including flowers, herbs, and vegetables,' she said. 'It's a great opportunity to share what we've learned with the community.' The sale will feature plants grown by students in the school's greenhouse and outdoor garden plots.
Community Support
The event is open to the public, and all proceeds will support the school's horticulture program. Teachers and staff have praised the students' dedication, noting that the program teaches valuable skills such as teamwork, patience, and environmental responsibility. 'This is more than just a plant sale; it's a celebration of student achievement and community engagement,' said a school spokesperson.
The plant sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Stayner Collegiate Institute, located at 7578 Highway 26. Organizers encourage attendees to bring cash or debit cards for purchases. For more information, contact the school office.
