The Saskatchewan Roughriders defeated the Toronto Argonauts 40-34 on Friday, June 26, 2026, in a game highlighted by standout performances from rookies Quali Conley and Ryker Weibe. Both players achieved their first CFL touchdowns in their debut appearances for the Green and White.
Rookie Running Back Quali Conley Scores First Major
Running back Quali Conley, a first-year player out of the University of San Diego, scored his first CFL touchdown on a short run in the second quarter. The 24-year-old finished the game with 12 carries for 68 yards and one touchdown, adding three receptions for 22 yards. According to the CFL, Conley was selected by the Roughriders in the second round of the 2026 CFL Draft.
Receiver Ryker Weibe Finds End Zone
Receiver Ryker Weibe, a rookie from the University of Saskatchewan, also scored his first CFL touchdown on a 35-yard pass from quarterback Mason Fine in the third quarter. Weibe caught four passes for 78 yards and one touchdown in his debut. Weibe was signed by the Roughriders as an undrafted free agent earlier this year.
Argos Aerial Attack Keeps Game Close
Despite the Roughriders' rookie heroics, the Argonauts kept the game competitive through a strong passing attack. Toronto quarterback Chad Kelly threw for 412 yards and four touchdowns, connecting with receiver Damion Jeanpiere Jr. for two scores. The Argos outgained the Riders in total yards 480 to 402, but Saskatchewan's defense forced two turnovers, including an interception by linebacker Derrick Moncrief.
Riders Improve to 2-1 on Season
The victory improved the Roughriders' record to 2-1 on the season, while the Argonauts fell to 1-2. Saskatchewan head coach Corey Mace praised his rookies after the game, saying, 'Both Quali and Ryker showed a lot of composure in their first CFL action. They made plays when we needed them, and I'm excited to see them grow.'
The Roughriders will next face the Calgary Stampeders on July 3, 2026, at McMahon Stadium.
