The Edmonton Oilers have invited Canada's top young female hockey player, Chloe Primerano, to their 2026 development camp. The 5-foot-8, 150-pound defenseman has starred in U.S. college hockey with the University of Minnesota for the past two years and has a long history of competing against male players.
Historic Invitation for Women's Hockey
This invitation is a significant step for women's hockey development. While some may view it as a publicity stunt, it provides Primerano with high-quality competition and instruction. She is not at the level of Edmonton's prospect players but is expected to hold her own in drills and practice games.
Primerano's Background and Achievements
Primerano last played full time against teenage boys for the Burnaby Winter Club, a top B.C. U-16 team. That squad also featured Benjamin Kindel, who made the Pittsburgh Penguins last year. Kindel recorded 47 points in 22 games, while Primerano posted 19 points in 30 games, making her the second-highest scoring defenseman on the team.
According to the Edmonton Journal, Primerano's invitation underscores the Oilers' commitment to supporting Canadian women's hockey. The development camp is scheduled for 2026, and Primerano will train alongside the team's top prospects.
