After scoring a combined one run in their previous three losses and being outscored 25-1, the Jays erupted for five runs in the third inning and added three more in the fourth.
Early Offensive Explosion
Jonatan Clase, starting in left field, highlighted the outburst with a three-run home run in the second inning, his first homer of the season. The Jays recorded five hits off Giants starter Trevor McDonald through two innings and chased him after 2.1 innings, having surrendered 11 hits. Ernie Clement, batting leadoff, collected three hits and increased his season total to 101.
Miles Delivers in Homecoming
Right-hander Spencer Miles, drafted 10th overall by the Blue Jays in MLB's Rule 5 draft, made his third start and 25th appearance. Despite loading the bases in the third inning, Miles induced a double play and limited the Giants to two runs over four innings, scattering seven hits. The Jays used closer Louis Varland for the ninth inning, needing 19 pitches to secure the win.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Continues Struggles
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. went 1-for-5, grounding into two double plays and seeing only three pitches in his first three at-bats. His batting average dropped to .263 with a .691 OPS. Hitting coach David Popkins described Guerrero as "jumpy" at the plate.
