Portuguese rider António Eulálio of the Caja Rural-Seguros RGA team finished safely in the main group, enough to secure the overall lead and don the coveted pink jersey. Eulálio, who had been second overall coming into the stage, capitalized on a strong team performance to move to the top of the general classification.

"It's an incredible feeling to wear the maglia rosa," Eulálio said. "The team worked perfectly today, and I am proud to lead the Giro. We will keep fighting to defend this jersey."
