Senators Claim Crucial Victory to Re-enter Playoff Contention
The Ottawa Senators delivered a statement performance on Thursday night, defeating the Buffalo Sabres 4-1 at Canadian Tire Centre to reclaim the final wildcard position in the Eastern Conference. This critical victory ended a three-game losing skid and provided redemption following what players described as their worst performance of the season just days earlier.
Overcoming Adversity on the Ice
Before an energetic crowd of 179,086 fans, the Senators demonstrated remarkable resilience. Shane Pinto, Ridly Greig, Dylan Cozens, and Lars Eller all found the back of the net for Ottawa, while goaltender Linus Ullmark turned away 21 shots to secure the win. The victory was particularly significant as it snapped a six-game losing streak against Buffalo that had stretched across two seasons.
"We talked about playing with that playoff, desperate mindset," explained captain Brady Tkachuk. "The last two we didn't like the result. Everyone stepped up tonight."
Head coach Travis Green praised his team's collective effort, calling it "a character win" with "a lot of buy-in from a lot of players." The Senators managed to finish the game with only five defensemen after an early injury, making the victory even more impressive.

The injury crisis creates immediate challenges for the Senators as they prepare to face the Minnesota Wild on Saturday. If Kleven cannot play, the team may need to recall another defenseman from their AHL affiliate in Belleville or potentially dress winger Kurtis MacDermid as a blueliner—a position he has played previously in his career.
