Senators Start Road Trip with 3-2 Win Over Ducks, Lose Matinpalo to Injury
Ottawa Senators beat Anaheim Ducks 3-2 on road

Senators Secure Gritty Road Victory

The Ottawa Senators launched their most extensive road journey of the season successfully, edging out the Anaheim Ducks with a 3-2 victory at the Honda Center on Thursday, November 20, 2025. The win marks a positive start to a demanding trip that will see the team travel over 10,000 kilometres across seven cities.

Batherson's Late Heroics Seal the Deal

With the game tied and time winding down in the third period, Drake Batherson emerged as the hero for Ottawa. He deftly tipped a point shot from teammate Jake Sanderson past Ducks goaltender Peter Mrazek with just 1:58 remaining on the clock, securing the crucial two points for his team.

"I was just lucky enough to get a stick on it and it's found its way in," Batherson remarked after the game. He emphasized the significance of the win, noting, "We've struggled on these trips in the past, coming out here and getting used to the time change, so getting a win is huge. I think we're going to get better the more we get used to it."

Injury Casts a Shadow on Victory

The triumph was tempered by a significant loss in the third period. Defenceman Nikolas Matinpalo was forced to leave the game after being slammed into the boards by Ducks' captain Radko Gudas. The Senators finished the contest without him, and his status is now a concern. The team has Lassi Thomson travelling with them and he may be called upon for the next game against the San Jose Sharks on Saturday.

Earlier in the game, Shane Pinto and Nick Cousins also found the back of the net for the Senators. Pinto's goal was particularly timely, coming on the powerplay with only 58 seconds left in the second period to tie the game and swing momentum back in Ottawa's favour heading into the final frame.

Goaltender Linus Ullmark was a key factor in the victory, turning in a solid performance with several crucial stops. This was his 16th start of the season, and the win provides a boost as he works to improve his record.

Coach Travis Green praised his team's resilience. "Resilient group tonight. I didn't like the start of our game but the powerplay gave us some momentum," Green said. "We had a lot of good looks, and when that happens you can start feeling that maybe it's not your night, but give them credit, they stuck with it."

The Senators now look to build on this hard-fought road win as they continue their lengthy trip, with their next challenge against the San Jose Sharks.
