G-Spot YCM Achieves Historic Fourth Win at Monaco's 42nd Primo Cup
G-Spot YCM Wins Fourth Primo Cup in Monaco Sailing Event

MONACO, March 10, 2026 – In a remarkable display of sailing prowess, Giangiacomo Serena di Lapigio, competing under the banner G-Spot for the Yacht Club de Monaco (YCM), has clinched an unprecedented fourth victory at the prestigious 42nd Primo Cup–UBS Trophy. This triumph marks his third consecutive win at the event, solidifying his dominance in one of sailing's most competitive early-season fixtures.

A Historic Achievement in Monaco Waters

After three intense days of racing in the picturesque waters off Monaco, Serena di Lapigio's crew emerged victorious in the J/70 class, the largest fleet at the regatta. With this win, they not only secured the Perpetual Trophy—awarded annually to the winner of the most represented class—but also set a new record for the most victories in the event's history.

"Out of 40 boats, around 20 are at a very high level, so the racing is very challenging and very fun," Serena di Lapigio commented. "We had very different weather conditions. In the end everything went well and it is the fourth time we have won the Primo Cup. We are proud of this."

Competitive Field and Event Details

The 42nd Primo Cup brought together over 300 sailors from ten different nations, competing across three primary classes: J/70, Smeralda 888, and Longtze Premier. Additionally, the Cape 31 class participated in a demonstration showcase. Organized by the Yacht Club de Monaco in partnership with UBS, and supported by Monaco City Hall and equipment supplier North Sails, the event featured 19 races across the fleets.

In the final standings, second place in the J/70 class went to the French team Euro Voiles, while third was claimed by the Swiss crew Situationship. The regatta unfolded under varied conditions, with strong easterly winds on the opening day giving way to lighter breezes for the concluding races.

Focus on Youth Development and Future Growth

Pierre Casiraghi, vice president of the Yacht Club de Monaco, emphasized the event's role in nurturing young sailing talent. "I'm always happy to see racing at the club. It's special for me because this is where I started sailing," Casiraghi stated. "The idea is to involve as many young sailors as possible, bring them onto bigger boats and make sure they continue sailing and racing."

He further noted that the club is committed to providing sailors with the necessary equipment and coaching to advance in the sport, with ambitions to attract additional classes to future editions of the Primo Cup.

Broader Competition Results

Beyond the J/70 class, other notable results included Switzerland's Shensu topping the overall standings in the Longtze Premier class. In the Smeralda 888 fleet, which opened its season in Monaco, Millenium Falcon secured victory ahead of Vamos mi Amor, skippered by Charles de Bourbon des Deux-Siciles, Class President, and Canard à l'Orange.

For the J/70 competitors, the Primo Cup also served as the final stage of the Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series. After four events held between November and March, G-Spot claimed the overall 2025-2026 title, finishing ahead of Fraser Yachts, led by Pierrik Devic, and Charisma V H992 Sailing Team, skippered by Nico Poons.

Legacy and Significance of the Primo Cup

Launched in 1985 by HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco, the Primo Cup has evolved into a cornerstone event on the international one-design sailing calendar. Its consistent early-season timing attracts top-tier talent from around the globe, fostering high-level competition and camaraderie among sailing enthusiasts.

This year's edition not only celebrated athletic excellence but also underscored the Yacht Club de Monaco's dedication to expanding the sport's reach and ensuring its vibrant future through youth engagement and international collaboration.
