The Calgary Stampeders announced on Wednesday that they have signed quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. to a two-year contract extension, keeping the dynamic playmaker in red and white through the 2028 season.

Adams Jr., 32, joined the Stampeders prior to the 2025 season after spending parts of four seasons with the BC Lions. In his first year with Calgary, he threw for 4,312 yards and 24 touchdowns while leading the team to a 10-8 record and a playoff berth. He also rushed for 512 yards and six scores, showcasing his dual-threat ability.

Leadership and Performance

"Vernon has been everything we hoped for and more since joining our organization," said Stampeders head coach and general manager Dave Dickenson in a statement. "His leadership, work ethic, and playmaking ability make him a cornerstone of our offense. We are thrilled to have him locked in for two more years."

Adams Jr. expressed excitement about remaining in Calgary. "I love this city, my teammates, and the coaching staff. We have unfinished business, and I'm ready to bring a Grey Cup back to Calgary," he said.

The extension comes as the Stampeders look to build on their 2025 success and contend for a championship in the upcoming season. Adams Jr. has been a consistent performer in the CFL, earning West Division All-Star honors in 2023 and 2024 with the Lions before his trade to Calgary.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
