Fox Sports released a World Cup advertisement this week that has generated significant debate among viewers. The ad, set to the song "The Impossible Dream," depicts the United States men's national team (USMNT) winning the World Cup, with Christian Pulisic scoring the decisive goal from a corner kick. The clip shows scenes of nationwide celebration, including Tom Brady cutting hair and Mike Eruzione, the hero of the 1980 "Miracle on Ice," dismissing a skeptic in a bar with the line, "What, you don't believe in miracles?"
Mixed Reactions to the Advertisement
While some fans found the ad inspiring and even gave one viewer "chills," many others were not convinced. Critics pointed to the USMNT's current ranking of 16th in the world and questioned the plausibility of such a victory. One viewer commented, "Not even a miracle can help the USMNT win a world cup. They'd need all the refs on payroll lmao." Others focused on Pulisic's recent performance, noting that he has not scored for his club team AC Milan since December and has not scored for the U.S. since 2024. One critic wrote, "Keep that washed up bum Pulisic off the roster."
Social Media Backlash
The ad prompted a wave of skeptical responses on social media. User @95cigar stated, "I believe we're much more likely to be eliminated in the group stage than win the whole thing." @Moneyline_RAY added, "Pulisic hasn't even gotten a goal this year and yall giving em corners." Others were blunt, with @bobbybangbang69 predicting, "Won't even make it out of the group BTW." Some fans expressed cautious optimism, like @jerod_mccarthy, who wrote, "I'll be optimistic for USMNT but I kinda know better. We have several really good players that perform well at the highest levels in European leagues. However, we still have not pilled together any team chemistry when playing for USMNT." Others were harsher, with @garrett_psd calling the ad "Completely unnecessary" and predicting it would make the team "look like even more of a joke." @johnrees893 criticized the team's coach and squad, while @kylebrass27 simply said, "Not with this squad and coach I don't."
Upcoming World Cup Details
The 2026 World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, is set to begin on June 11. The USMNT will look to defy the skeptics and make a deep run in the tournament.
