Day 3 of the Calgary Stampeders main training camp saw the running backs take center stage, with reigning CFL rushing champion Dedrick Mills leading the charge. The 29-year-old arrived at McMahon Stadium with renewed energy and a lighter frame, determined to build on his stellar 2025 season.
Mills Ready for Encore Performance
Mills, who led the league with 1,409 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns last year, is setting ambitious goals for 2026. 'I want to hit 1,500, 1,600, 1,700 yards in the regular season,' he said. 'And as far as touchdowns, I need 20 touchdowns, you know? Twenty-plus.' The fifth-year CFLer also contributed 33 receptions for 292 yards in 2025, helping the Stamps rebound from a tough previous campaign.
Mills credits his off-season preparation for his improved condition. Weighing in at 225 pounds—down from his usual 230-240—he focused on footwork and overall fitness. 'I just went all out this off-season and came back with my body in the best shape it’s ever been in coming into camp,' Mills said.

Coach Dickenson's Expectations
Stampeders GM and head coach Dave Dickenson expressed confidence in Mills but emphasized the need for continued hunger. 'Mills is ready to rock. He seems like he's in a good spot. I just want to make sure he stays hungry, meaning that there's a reason he had a good year. So keep doing those things and don't be satisfied,' Dickenson said.
The Stampeders are counting on Mills to replicate his 2025 success, but the running back aims to exceed it. 'Even though I had a great season, I just want to have an even better season,' Mills added.
