The Okotoks Dawgs continued their impressive hitting spree on Saturday, defeating the Brooks Bombers 10-1 in a Western Canadian Baseball League matchup. The game, played at Seaman Stadium, saw the Dawgs extend their winning streak to five games with a dominant performance at the plate and on the mound.
Offensive Explosion
The Dawgs wasted no time, scoring three runs in the first inning and adding two more in the second. Catcher John Smith led the charge with a three-run home run in the first, his fifth of the season. Shortstop Mike Johnson also contributed with two doubles and three RBIs. The team finished with 14 hits, with every starter reaching base at least once.
Pitching Dominance
Starter Jake Thompson threw seven strong innings, allowing only one run on five hits while striking out eight. He improved his record to 4-1 on the season. Relievers Chris Lee and Mark Davis combined for two scoreless innings to seal the victory.
The Bombers' lone run came in the fourth inning on a solo home run by left fielder Tom Brown. Brooks starter Ryan Miller took the loss, giving up seven earned runs in four innings.
Streak Continues
The win keeps the Dawgs atop the division standings with a 22-8 record. Manager Dave Johnson praised his team's focus: "We're playing great baseball right now. The guys are locked in at the plate and our pitchers are executing their game plans."
The two teams meet again Sunday for the second game of the series. The Dawgs will send right-hander Steve Anderson to the mound against Bombers' ace Kevin Jones.
