Canadian curler loses equipment en route to Geneva worlds

Canadian curler Wayne Middaugh found himself without essential equipment upon arriving in Geneva, Switzerland, for the World Mixed Doubles and World Senior Curling Championships. Taking to social media, he expressed his frustration with Air Canada, using the hashtag #broomlessinGeneva.

Equipment mishap resolved

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Middaugh wrote: "It's been 2 days and Team Canada competing at World Championships is still missing equipment. Called. Emailed. Started claim. Can somebody please help find our equipment." Air Canada responded, stating that the baggage was returned to him on Friday morning. A spokesperson explained that the issue arose when Middaugh was rerouted from his original itinerary to avoid missing a connection in Montreal, causing his bags to be left behind.

Middaugh's curling legacy

Middaugh is a three-time world champion, winning titles in 1993, 1998, and 2012. He has competed in ten Briers and won seven Skins Games, along with five World Curling Tour Players' Championships. In 2016, a skiing accident broke his leg, leading him to transition into coaching. He was inducted into the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame in 2020.
