Former National Hockey League player Link Gaetz, widely known by his nickname 'The Missing Link', is currently the subject of an arrest warrant in British Columbia following an alleged assault on a taxi driver last year. The 57-year-old former enforcer, who played 65 games in the NHL, is facing charges of assault and mischief under $5,000, as announced by the Maple Ridge RCMP on Thursday.

Incident Details

According to police, the incident occurred on September 17, 2025, at approximately 2:45 p.m. The taxi driver had picked up Gaetz from an establishment and was directed to a specific location. During the ride, Gaetz allegedly ordered the driver to stop and immediately began assaulting him. The driver sustained facial injuries from multiple punches. Gaetz then reportedly attempted to destroy the taxi's CCTV camera and broke the windshield before fleeing the scene.

Responding officers patrolled the area but were unable to locate Gaetz. Additional resources, including Integrated Police Dog Services and air support, were deployed. Investigators conducted follow-up inquiries, canvassing for witnesses and video evidence. The victim was offered support through victim services.

Background of the Accused

Gaetz was selected in the second round of the 1988 NHL Entry Draft by the former Minnesota North Stars. He played parts of three seasons with the North Stars and the San Jose Sharks between 1988 and 1992. Known for his enforcer role, he accumulated significant penalty minutes. After his NHL stint, Gaetz played in the IHL and ECHL during the 1990s. He also appeared in 21 games for the AHL's Cape Breton Oilers during the 1993–94 season but never returned to the NHL.

He continued his professional career in various minor leagues, including the Sunshine Hockey League and the Ligue Nord-Americaine de Hockey in Quebec. Gaetz eventually retired after the 2006–07 season with the Horse Lake Thunder of the North Peace Hockey League.

Current Status
