Clase's breakout performance
Clase's homer, which also scored Sean Keys and Brandon Valenzuela, gave the Blue Jays an early lead they never relinquished. The rookie outfielder finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
"It felt great to finally get that first one out of the way," Clase said after the game. "I've been working hard in the cage, and it paid off tonight."
Offensive outburst supports strong pitching
Toronto's offense pounded out 12 hits, with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. adding two doubles and an RBI. George Springer chipped in with a solo home run in the fifth inning.
Blue Jays starter Kevin Gausman earned the win, allowing three runs on six hits over six innings while striking out seven. He improved to 8-4 on the season.
Giants struggle to keep pace
San Francisco managed only six hits, with Joc Pederson hitting a two-run homer in the fourth inning. Giants starter Logan Webb took the loss, giving up five runs on eight hits in five innings.
"We couldn't string together enough good at-bats tonight," Giants manager Bob Melvin said. "They jumped on us early, and we never recovered."
