The Ottawa Charge have signed forward Dara Greig, reuniting her with her brother Ridly Greig of the Ottawa Senators. The announcement was made on June 20, 2026, marking a family reunion in the nation's capital.
Dara Greig, 24, previously played for the Montreal Victoire in the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL). She appeared in 12 games during the 2025-26 season, recording 2 goals and 3 assists for 5 points. Her addition brings depth to the Charge's forward lineup as they prepare for the 2026-27 campaign.
Family Ties in Ottawa
The signing creates a unique sibling connection between the Charge and the Senators. Ridly Greig, 23, is a forward for the Ottawa Senators, selected in the first round of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. He has played 150 NHL games, tallying 35 goals and 55 assists.
“It’s a dream come true to play in the same city as my brother,” Dara Greig said in a statement. “Ottawa feels like home, and I’m excited to contribute to the Charge’s success.” According to team sources, the Greig siblings grew up in Lethbridge, Alberta, and often trained together during the off-season.
Impact on the Charge
The Ottawa Charge finished the 2025-26 PWHL season with a 14-10-4 record, placing third in the league. The team is looking to bolster its offense after averaging 2.8 goals per game last season. Head coach Carla MacLeod expressed optimism about Greig's arrival.
“Dara brings speed and a strong two-way game,” MacLeod said. “Her familiarity with the league and her competitive spirit will be an asset to our group.” The Charge also announced the signing of defenseman Ella Shelton to a two-year contract extension earlier this week.
PWHL Growth and Family Connections
The PWHL has seen several family connections since its inaugural season in 2024. Notable pairs include the Heise sisters, with Taylor playing for Minnesota and sister Grace for Boston. The Greig siblings add to this trend, highlighting the league's growing appeal.
Dara Greig was originally drafted by the Montreal Victoire in the 2024 PWHL Draft. She played college hockey at Colgate University, where she recorded 45 points in 38 games during her senior season. Her transition to professional hockey has been smooth, and she is expected to slot into the Charge's top six forwards.
The Ottawa Charge will open their 2026-27 season on November 15, 2026, against the Toronto Sceptres at TD Place Arena.
