Calgary Stampeders Rookie Camp Day 2: Matt Sibley Chases Hometown Dream
Matt Sibley Aims to Catch On with Hometown Stampeders

Day 2 of the Calgary Stampeders rookie camp saw a familiar face making waves at McMahon Stadium. Matt Sibley, a longtime Calgary Dinos wide receiver and die-hard Stamps fan, is determined to catch on with his hometown club.

A Dream Realized

"I've dreamt of this for a long time," said Sibley with a smile, after being selected by the Stampeders in the third round of the 2026 CFL Draft. "I'm a huge Stamps fan. My family had season tickets—I think the first game I went to I was only like a month old. It was a big family tradition."

The 22-year-old receiver grew up idolizing Stampeders legends like Ken-Yon Rambo and Nik Lewis. "I was a big Ken-Yon Rambo fan—huge. I've always tried to model my game after him. And Nik Lewis—I was a huge fan too," Sibley recalled.

Impressing at Camp

Through two days of the three-day rookie camp, Sibley has already turned heads with his reliable hands and route-running ability. "Once the ball's in the air, it's my football," he said. "That's something I've always taken pride in, especially during my time at the University of Calgary."

Over four seasons with the Dinos, Sibley hauled in 105 catches for 1,302 yards and seven touchdowns. He also contributed on special teams, with 100 punt returns for 808 yards and 27 kick returns for 585 yards.

Scouting Report

Stampeders director of Canadian scouting Dwayne Cameron praised Sibley's explosiveness. "This kid's an explosive football player. He's fast, twitchy—runs sub 4.6. Not the biggest guy at 5-foot-10-and-a-half and 190 pounds, so he's got to be tough and gritty and make his mark as a receiver."

Head coach and GM Dave Dickenson echoed that sentiment. "He's growing and getting better each year. He's strong and willing to hit the weight room. He's not the biggest man, but he's competed well at every level."

Sibley is determined to earn a roster spot and continue the legacy of the offensive stars he cheered for as a kid. "I've got all the jerseys," he laughed. "Now I want to earn my own."
