Jenna Dallyn of Nanton, Alberta, has qualified for the Championship Sunday finals at the Calgary Stampede after a standout performance in the ladies breakaway roping event. On Sunday, July 5, 2026, the third day of Pool A competition, Dallyn tied for the fastest time of the day at 3.4 seconds, sharing the top spot with Montana cowgirls Celie Rogers and Cadee Williams. The result earned her a three-way split of the day's prize money, totaling $5,666.67, and pushed her pool total to $15,166.67, securing a top-three finish and a berth in the finale.
A local cowgirl's dream
Dallyn, whose father Rocky is a four-time Canadian champion in team roping, expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to compete on such a grand stage. "Man … it means so much," Dallyn said after her win in front of thousands at GMC Stadium. "I love to rope, and I’ve always loved to rope, but I never thought that roping would take me to places like this — stages like this — in front of this many people, you know." She added, "I think all the girls that are here and are going to be here the rest of the week, we’ve been roping for a long time and a lot of years, and nobody knew that we were going to be on this stage, but we all just worked hard and would love to do it, and this is where we get to be now, so it’s pretty cool."
Following in footsteps
Dallyn's performance comes in the second year of the ladies breakaway roping event at the Calgary Stampede. Last year, Shelby Boisjoli-Meged won the inaugural title, a feat Dallyn hopes to emulate. "Me and Shelby are the same age. We kind of grew up high school rodeoing together and stuff, so it was super cool to see her going and win the whole deal," Dallyn said. With her spot in Championship Sunday secured, Dallyn aims to keep the title close to home in Nanton, located just south of Calgary.
Strategic approach pays off
Entering Sunday as the pool money leader, Dallyn remained focused despite the pressure. "I came in leading the pool money-wise but knowing it was pretty tight," she explained. "I actually believe by the time I went, I was guaranteed a spot. I was trying to do math in my head before I went, and I think I was good. But … you know … I didn’t change the game plan, which is trying to make a good run." Her consistent performance throughout Pool A has set her up as a strong contender for the championship.
