Blue Jays OF Nathan Lukes exits game with sore hamstring

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Nathan Lukes left Friday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks because of a sore left hamstring, the team announced.

Lukes exited the game in the top of the fourth inning after making a running catch in left field. He was replaced by Daulton Varsho.

The injury occurred on a play where Lukes sprinted toward the line to track down a fly ball. After making the catch, he appeared to grab at his left leg and was visited by a trainer before remaining in the game for the remainder of the inning. However, he did not come to bat in the bottom of the fourth and was replaced.

The Blue Jays said Lukes is day-to-day and will be evaluated further. The 28-year-old is hitting .267 with two home runs and 12 RBIs this season.

Lukes has been a valuable contributor for Toronto, playing all three outfield positions. His absence could impact the team's depth as they continue a crucial series against Arizona.

The Blue Jays have been dealing with several injuries this season, including key players on the mound and in the field. Manager John Schneider said after the game that the team will monitor Lukes closely and make a decision on his status for Saturday's game.

Lukes was acquired by the Blue Jays in 2022 and has become a reliable option in the outfield. His speed and defensive skills have made him a fan favorite.

The team hopes the injury is minor and that Lukes can return quickly to help the Blue Jays in their playoff push.
