The Toronto Blue Jays have activated veteran outfielder George Springer from the 10-day injured list and designated outfielder Eloy Jimenez for assignment, the team announced Wednesday.
Springer returns after hamstring injury
Springer, 36, had been sidelined since April 18 with a left hamstring strain. In 18 games this season, he is batting .245 with three home runs and 11 RBIs. The three-time All-Star and 2017 World Series MVP with Houston signed a six-year, $150 million contract with Toronto before the 2021 season.
Jimenez designated for assignment
Jimenez, 29, was acquired by the Blue Jays in a trade with the Chicago White Sox last August. He struggled in 2025, hitting .218 with 12 home runs and 38 RBIs in 102 games. This season, he appeared in 22 games, batting .191 with two homers and eight RBIs.
The Blue Jays will have seven days to trade, release, or place Jimenez on waivers. If he clears waivers, he can be assigned to the minor leagues, but he has the right to refuse the assignment and become a free agent.
Roster implications
With Springer back, the Blue Jays outfield now features Springer, Daulton Varsho, and Kevin Kiermaier, with Davis Schneider and Addison Barger providing depth. The team also recalled infielder Orelvis Martinez from Triple-A Buffalo to fill the open roster spot.
The Blue Jays (16-12) are second in the American League East, 2.5 games behind the New York Yankees. They open a four-game series against the Kansas City Royals on Thursday.
