A new Fox News poll has delivered troubling news for President Donald Trump, showing his approval rating at its lowest point of his second term. The survey, conducted from May 15-18 among 1,002 registered voters, found that only 39% approve of Trump's job performance. This marks a 10-point drop since the beginning of his term and a 3-point decline in the past month alone.
Economic Concerns Drive Disapproval
The economy appears to be the primary driver of public dissatisfaction. Trump's approval on economic issues stands at a mere 29%, down from 34% in April. A slim majority of Republicans, 51%, now disapprove of his handling of inflation. Overall, only 24% of voters approve of his efforts to slow inflation, a sharp decline from 35% in January.
Republican Support Wavers
The poll reveals fractures within Trump's base. While 88% of self-identified MAGA Republicans believe Trump's policies will help the country, only 43% of non-MAGA Republicans share that view. Overall, 57% of registered voters think Trump's policies are hurting the nation. Republican pollster Daron Shaw, who helped conduct the poll, noted: "Despite consistently strong GOP support, the president's numbers are leaking a bit. Make no mistake; it's all about affordability. Independents jumped ship in 2025, and now non-MAGA Republicans and other core constituencies are wavering."
Trump Dismisses Economic Worries
The findings come as no surprise given Trump's recent comments. When asked if voters' economic concerns would push him to end the war with Iran, Trump replied: "I don't think about Americans' financial situation. I don't think about anybody." He added: "Not even a little bit."
Other Polls Confirm Trend
The Fox News poll aligns with other recent surveys. A New York Times/Siena poll released Monday found Trump's favorability at its lowest point of his second term, with 49% strongly disapproving of his performance. Nearly two-thirds of respondents said the war with Iran was the wrong decision, and 70% disapproved of his handling of the cost of living. A CBS/YouGov poll from mid-May showed that only 14% of Americans believe Trump is making them financially better off, while 57% say he is making things worse.
