Caledon Mayor Annette Groves has announced that she will not be seeking re-election in the upcoming 2026 municipal election, bringing an end to her tenure as the town's leader. In a statement released on Tuesday, Groves expressed gratitude to the community and highlighted several achievements during her time in office, including infrastructure improvements and community development initiatives.
A Legacy of Service
Groves, who has served as mayor since 2018, noted that her decision was personal and came after careful consideration. She emphasized her pride in the town's progress and thanked residents for their support. "It has been an honour to serve the residents of Caledon," she said. "Together, we have accomplished so much, from enhancing local parks to supporting small businesses."
Achievements and Challenges
Under Groves' leadership, Caledon saw significant growth in residential and commercial sectors. She also navigated the town through the COVID-19 pandemic and advocated for regional transportation improvements. However, her tenure faced challenges, including debates over development density and environmental conservation.
Groves' decision leaves the mayoral race open for new candidates. Several potential contenders have already expressed interest, though no official announcements have been made. The election is scheduled for October 2026.
Residents and local officials have praised Groves for her dedication. "Annette has been a tireless advocate for our community," said Councillor Jennifer Innis. "Her leadership will be missed."
Groves confirmed she will complete her current term and assist with a smooth transition. She did not rule out future public service roles.
