Two E-Scooter Collisions in Ottawa: One Dead, One Critical

Two collisions involving e-scooters have occurred in Ottawa in the past three days, the Ottawa Police Service said on June 16. A 55-year-old man died from his injuries, and another man in his 20s was in life-threatening condition in hospital.

First Collision on June 14

On June 14, after 8 p.m., a 55-year-old man was riding an e-scooter when he collided with an SUV at the intersection of Carling Avenue and Fairlawn Avenue, across from the Carlingwood Shopping Centre in Nepean. He later died from his injuries.

Second Collision on June 16

On June 16 at approximately 9:30 a.m., an e-scooter and a commercial refrigerated cube van collided at the intersection of Greenbank Road and Strandherd Drive in Barrhaven. A man in his 20s who was riding the e-scooter was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition.

Investigations Ongoing

Both investigations were ongoing as of June 16. Police are seeking witnesses or anyone with dashcam video of either area around the time of the collisions. Anyone with information can contact the Ottawa Police Service Fatal Collision Investigation Unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 2345.
