Three people and their three dogs escaped a fire at a Dalhousie home Tuesday morning. The smoke alarm alerted the occupants to the blaze, allowing them to evacuate safely with their pets.
Fire Incident Details
The smell of smoke alerted three people who were home at the time to a fire in a bedroom. According to Calgary Fire Department information officer Alex Kwan, the residents reported a strange odor and smoky conditions. When they opened a bedroom door, they discovered a large amount of smoke and immediately evacuated with their pets, calling 911.
Fire crews arrived at the two-storey home on Dalhart Hill N.W. around 10 a.m. Three of the four occupants were outside with their dogs; the fourth person was not home at the time.
Firefighting Response
Firefighters located the fire in a back bedroom and quickly extinguished it, ensuring no other occupants or pets were inside. Kwan stated that the fire was contained to the bedroom but smoke spread throughout the home, raising concerns about its habitability.
A fire investigator is on scene determining the cause of the fire.
