Firefighters in Saskatoon rescued residents and a pet from a late-night apartment fire early Thursday morning. The blaze broke out around 2 a.m. in a multi-unit building on the city's east side, prompting a swift response from emergency crews.
Quick Action Saves Lives
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from a second-floor unit. Crews immediately launched an interior attack while conducting a search of the building. They successfully evacuated all residents and located a pet trapped inside the affected apartment.
“Our crews did an outstanding job under challenging conditions,” said Saskatoon Fire Department Battalion Chief Mark Johnson. “Everyone got out safely, including the family pet, which is a tremendous relief.”
No Injuries Reported
No injuries were reported among residents or firefighters. The Red Cross has been called in to assist displaced residents with temporary housing and support services.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but early indications suggest it may have been accidental. Damage to the building is estimated at $500,000.
Fire officials remind residents to ensure smoke alarms are working and to have an escape plan in place.
