Regina's Queen City Pride Parade will adopt a new route in 2026 due to what organizers describe as 'safety risks.' The announcement comes after the 2025 parade, which featured over 100 floats as part of the group's 10-day pride festival.
According to a statement from Queen City Pride, the decision to change the route was made after a thorough review of the 2025 event. 'We identified several safety concerns that need to be addressed to ensure the wellbeing of participants and spectators,' the statement read.
The new route is expected to be announced later this year, with input from city officials, police, and community stakeholders. Organizers emphasized that the change is proactive and not in response to any specific incident during the 2025 parade.
'Our priority is to create a safe and inclusive environment for everyone,' said a spokesperson for Queen City Pride. 'We are working closely with the city to develop a route that minimizes risks while maintaining the festive spirit of the parade.'
The pride parade is a highlight of Regina's annual pride festival, which includes various events over 10 days. The 2025 festival drew thousands of attendees from across Saskatchewan and beyond.
City officials have expressed support for the route change. 'We are committed to working with Queen City Pride to ensure a safe and successful event,' said a city representative. 'Safety is our top priority.'
The new route will be finalized in the coming months, with details to be shared with the public well in advance of the 2026 parade.
