A coalition of residents and community groups in Nova Scotia is calling for an immediate development freeze in Hammonds Plains, citing serious safety concerns. The group argues that rapid growth has outstripped infrastructure capacity, leading to risks in emergency response and traffic safety.
Safety concerns prompt action
The coalition, which includes local homeowners and environmental advocates, presented a petition to municipal officials on Wednesday. They highlighted narrow roads, lack of sidewalks, and insufficient water pressure for firefighting as key issues. "We are not against development, but it must be done safely," said spokesperson Jane Doe.
Emergency access at risk
Residents worry that emergency vehicles cannot navigate the area efficiently. "If there's a fire or medical emergency, every second counts," said John Smith, a long-time resident. The coalition is demanding a moratorium until a comprehensive safety review is completed.
