A 22-year-old man has been charged in connection with an attempted abduction of a child from a driveway in Surrey last weekend, according to police.
Liam Robert Dobbs-Morency faces one count of abduction of a person under 14 and one count of possession of a prohibited weapon. He remains in custody pending a bail hearing scheduled for Thursday in Surrey provincial court.

Officers responded to a home in the 8100-block of 136A Street at approximately 6:40 p.m. on Saturday after receiving a report of an attempted abduction. Police stated that a child was playing in a driveway when a stranger allegedly approached and physically picked up the child. Bystanders who witnessed the incident intervened, prompting the suspect to put the child down and flee the area.
According to the Surrey Police Service, a man matching the suspect's description was detained by bystanders a short distance away and held until police arrived to take him into custody. The child was not harmed during the incident.

Dobbs-Morency has been formally charged with abduction of a person under 14 years of age and possession of a prohibited weapon. He is currently in custody, and his bail hearing is set for Thursday at Surrey provincial court.
