Emergency crews responded to two residential fires in the Greater Toronto Area in the early hours of Monday, December 1, 2025, leading to road closures and evacuations but resulting in no injuries.
North York Blaze in Vacant Home
Toronto Fire Services were called to a house fire near the intersection of Finch Avenue West and Bathurst Street around 4:15 a.m. The home was vacant at the time, and no one was hurt. As a safety precaution, Finch Avenue West was closed between Finchurst Drive and Glenborough Park Drive while crews worked at the scene.
Aurora Fire Prompts Neighbourhood Evacuation
Simultaneously, in Aurora, York Regional Police and fire crews were dispatched to a structure fire in the area of Bovair Trail and Leslie Street at approximately 4 a.m. All occupants of the affected home were safely evacuated. Authorities also evacuated neighbouring residences as a precaution while bringing the blaze under control.
Road closures were implemented, with northbound Leslie Street at Bloomington Road and southbound Leslie at Vandorf Sideroad remaining closed during the emergency response.
Suspect Arrested in Lambton County Homicide
In a separate incident in southwestern Ontario, the Lambton County OPP have made an arrest in connection with a homicide investigation. Police were called to a home on Northville Crescent in the Northville Estates area near Port Franks on Saturday afternoon at about 1:40 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers found one person deceased and another with serious injuries who was transported to hospital. The deceased has been identified as a 57-year-old woman.
Police confirmed that one male suspect was arrested without incident. Investigators believe this was an isolated incident, but an increased police presence remains in the area as the probe continues. Port Franks is a small community located near Pinery Provincial Park, approximately 71 kilometres from London, Ontario.
Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the Lambton County case to come forward and contact the OPP.
