Woman Charged as Accessory in Windsor's First Homicide of 2026
A 22-year-old woman has been formally charged in connection with a homicide that occurred in Windsor during February, resulting in the death of a 44-year-old man. This incident marks the city's first homicide of the year, drawing significant attention from law enforcement and the community.
Arrest and Charges
Windsor police arrested the woman on March 27 at a residence located in east Windsor. She is accused of being an accessory after the fact in the death of Sydney Cox, who was found unresponsive in a parking lot at Windsor Regional Hospital Metropolitan Campus shortly after 5:30 a.m. on February 19.
Investigators from the Windsor police major crimes unit determined that Cox had allegedly sustained a fatal injury shortly before being transported to the hospital and left in the parking lot. Despite life-saving measures by emergency medical staff, Cox could not be revived and died that morning from a gunshot wound.
Related Arrests and Legal Proceedings
Less than 24 hours after Cox was discovered, investigators charged Robert Joseph Labrecque, a 25-year-old from LaSalle, with first-degree murder. Police confirmed that Labrecque and Cox knew each other, and Labrecque now awaits trial.
In a related development, a second man, who drove the injured father of four to the hospital, was initially charged with first-degree murder. However, that charge was later withdrawn by the prosecution. He still faces two criminal counts in connection to the fatal shooting: trafficking in a firearm and having a firearm in a motor vehicle. His next court appearance is scheduled for this month.
